As a sacred mountain where Gods dwell from olden time, and as a site of the World Cultural Heritage in recent years, Mt. Misen has much to offer to tourists, such as extant primeval forests, strange rocks, venerable historic sites, seven wonders, etc. All visitors will be charmed into the miracle spots interwoven with spectacular wonders.
A bird's-eye-view of Miyajima   What is Mt.Misen...
The highest peak of Miyajima island, Misen rises about 535 meters above sea level.Ever since it was founded by Kobo Daishi in 806, it has attracted devoted worshippers including Taira-no-Kiyomori and Itoh Hirobumi, there are still traces of their travels and worship here. The natural environment has been kept intact which creates magnificent scenery. Among the natural beauty, there are scattered strange rocks in addition to a variety of historical sites. In 1996, it was designated a World Cultural Heritage as “Misen Primeval Forest together with Itsukushimajinja Shrine”.
